Do you want to join us on our journey to the top?

Our teams for the 2021-2022 season have already been formed! Be on the lookout for news about Crimson Combat, our casual tournament in late Spring for those interested in trying out next year. Also, feel free to reach out to us at uacjmta@gmail.com with questions about staying involved with the organization.

How do tryouts work?

This year, AMTA has created the case of State v. Sutcliffe. Attorneys will give a 4 minute opening statement, and then have the choice of crossing either Kiran Singh (character witness) or Dr. Mel Jelani (expert witness) for 4 minutes. Afterwards, each attorney will choose a prompt and give an argumentative speech for roughly a minute with a couple of follow-up questions by our selection committee.

For witnesses, they can choose to portray Kiran Singh (character witness), D. Weber (expert witness) or Alex Silva (sympathetic witness) for their tryout. Each witness will participate in a 4 minute direct by one of our attorneys; the questions for the direct have been pre-released and each witness is expected to create their own answers. Afterwards, the witness will be crossed for 3 minutes by an opposing attorney. As part of the witness tryout, our selection committee values a well-developed personality for the character.

      1. Only University of Alabama undergraduate students can tryout for the Mock Trial Association. If you have experience with law, you might be able to volunteer as a judge at our Crimson Classic tournament.
