Tryout materials are released from this website linking to a shared drive folder containing all relevant information. There will be a timeslot sign-up sheet for both attorneys and witnesses. There is also a preference form to fill out prior to your tryout. Feel free to reach out to us at uacjmta@gmail.com with questions about staying involved with the organization.

How do tryouts work?

Last year, we litigated the case of Felder v. Koller Campbell Air LLC. For tryouts attorneys gave a 4 minute opening statement, and then had the choice of crossing either Shannon Shahid (character witness) or Drew Hubbard (expert witness) for 4 minutes. Afterwards, each attorney chose a prompt and gave an argumentative speech for roughly a minute with a couple of follow-up questions by our selection committee.

For witnesses, they could choose to portray Shannon Shahid (character witness), Drew Hubbard (expert witness) or Ari Felder (sympathetic witness) for their tryout. Each witness participated in a 4 minute direct by one of our attorneys; the questions for the direct had been pre-released and each witness was expected to create their own answers. Afterwards, the witness was crossed for 3 minutes by an opposing attorney. As part of the witness tryout, our selection committee values a well-developed personality for the character.

      1. Only University of Alabama undergraduate students can tryout for the Mock Trial Association. If you have experience with law, you might be able to volunteer as a judge at our Crimson Classic tournament.
